BOOM collaborated with Indian fact-checkers and news publishers to counter election-related misinformation in 2024. Over 100 video fact-checks and over 400 written fact-checks published in English, Hindi and Bangla.

During the Gujarat elections of 2022, BOOM used WhatsApp as a vector to seed fact-checks and factfulness narratives. BOOM ran 10 WhatsApp groups, created a tip-line in Gujarati and ran online and outdoor awareness campaigns.
CUTS International and US Consulate General Kolkata in collaboration with BOOM hosted a series of media literacy and fact-checking workshops for journalists in the north-eastern region of India.
BOOM runs regular fact-checking training and media literacy projects, online and offline in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan. Workshops are for everyone including journalists, journalism and engineering students, senior citizens, teenagers and the general public.
In 2020, BOOM produced over 50 videos on media literacy as part of the Fact Checking Development Grant by IFCN and YouTube. The videos were in English, Hindi, and Bangla and received a combined viewership of 3.1 million across platforms.
IIn 2021, in collaboration with the International Center for Journalists, BOOM trained a cohort of journalists and organizations in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in fact-checking in multiple languages. BOOM also provided guidance and mentorship towards accreditation by the IFCN.
BOOM in collaboration with Journalists' Association of Bhutan hosted a week-long comprehensive fact-checking training for local journalists who were first-time learners.
In January 2020, BOOM organised the Trust and Security Roundtable in partnership with Microsoft Research in Bengaluru. The event brought together technologists, legal experts, scholars, educators, policy-makers, journalists, and fact-checkers. This event facilitated critical discussions on the challenges of misinformation and the erosion of trust in the digital age.
In collaboration with the Google News Initiative and Data Leads, BOOM focused on debunking medical misinformation. BOOM trained a core team of 25 journalists, fact-checkers, and public health professionals from across India, expanding the training to eventually reach 500 individuals.
In 2021, BOOM partnered with Data Leads to build a news literacy curriculum for the “FactShala” project.
IndiaSpend & Azim Premji University in collaboration with BOOM hosted climate misinformation workshops in 5 cities for journalists covering climate and environment.

“In this program I have met people whom I have seen on TV or have read in my college days, like Hridayesh Ji and Shoma Chaudhary. Being on the same platform with these people in itself is a confidence booster for me. This also gives us hope that we are not alone in this journey. I have not been able to connect most of the peers personally, but I think a one-on-one session with 2-3 peers together can be a valuable technique for us to connect. An in-person session can also be useful if we want to connect more.”
